Shomai |
At first you may think and ask what shomai is composed of. The orginal shomai is made of pound ground pork, salt, small onion, grated fresh ginger, potato starch, shomai wrappers and pepper.
And by the decades and generations, the other flavors follows like chicken shomai, beef shomai and even vegetable shomai.
But in the streets of Cebu, you can only buy and try one flavor, the pork shomai, which I oftenly used to buy after my school classes and mass every Sundays or even when I come to the city.It is only 3.00pesos each and in your 3 to 4 pieces and paired with Puso or also called as Hanging Rice and cold Coke or any drinks, your empty stomach will be filled right away..
Fishball |
My second favorite street food in the street is Fishballs.Fishballs is made of flaked fish, flour, evaporated milk, spring onion stalks, finely chopped, oil, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, salt and pepper.
The price is 3pesos per stick and free dipping sauce provided by the vendor..either sweet or hot.
Tempura |
It is the same texture of Fishballs and made of fish but the its not round it is elongated. It's sold per piece and 3pesos each.
Free dip but only once. For safe purposes.
Dont miss to try this also when you come to Cebu..
Balut |
It is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside..boiled and served hot.Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein street food.
I recommend to put some salt, chilli and vinegar after peeling the shells, and yeah sipping the broth that surrounds the embryo really feels good. You can eat also the young chick and the yolk inside and let the white remain in the shell or you can also eat that one..
The price is right its only 15 to 20 pesos per egg.affordable and worthy..
So, these are my top four street foods that I have tried here in my city..If you can come to Cebu, try this four food and share it to your friends around.
